How To Pick Up Golf

Golf is a sport now accessible to many people. If you like to pick up Golf but are on a budget here are some tips that can help you get started in the game.

Tip 1: Get a Half Set.

Often I've seen full Titelist, Callaway, or S-yard sets sitting in a friend's garage collecting dust and that's a pity. You can save money by getting a second-hand half set 1st. A half set consists of the following clubs.

A Putter
A Pitching Wedge
A Sand Wedge
9 Iron
7 Iron
5 Iron
Driver
Wood or Hybrid.

When you feel that you want to take your game to the next level, invest in a good set of clubs in the $1500 to the $2000 range. If you're a young man in your 20s to 30's and have good club head speed, you may want a steel shaft iron set. There is less flex in the shaft and you'll feel the sensation of having more control with your clubs.

Tip 2: Get Your PC.

PC stands for Profieciency Certificate. With a PC, you are cetified to play at a Golf course. It shows that you know the rules and ettiqute of the game. A PC together with your half set will allow you to get started playing the game early on. Collect the score cards and have your playing partner inital on the score card. These score cards will be required when you decide to go for your handicap test.

Tips 3: Get A Good Golf Book

A good Golf instructor can take your game to the next level. However, I feel that time and $1000 spent with a Golf instructor is worthwhile, after the basics of Golf are learned by picking up a good book. We'll be better equipped to pick the brains of a single handicap Golf instructor after we have mastered the Golf basics and Golf terminologies like... the correct Golf grip, the back swing, what is a birdie, the takeway, what is a cupped wrist, proper weight transition, strong, neutral, weak grip, how much shaft lean is required.
